Trainer's Guide to Pokemon Figures Conquest
I remembered going through a couple of guides while in search for my 151 TOMY collection, and I have those guides to thank for allowing me to complete my collection sooner than I could imagine. Those guides aided me in my navigation on auction sites such as Yahoo! Japan Auction, eBay, Amazon, and especially for Yahoo! Japan Auction where the entire site is in Japanese language but it is where most authentic figures can be found.

Yahoo! Japan Auction
Sites such as Yahoo! Japan Auction requires the need of an agent (also known as shopping deputy/proxy) as the sellers do not ship out of Japan themselves, and to have an account with Yahoo! Japan Auction you will need to have a credit card registered from a bank in Japan. Shopping deputy is the middlemen for your transaction and they profit through a commission or agent's fee. I personally engage a freelance agent for my purchases, but have seen many users for sites such as FromJapan, Japonica Market, Noppin, and Shopping Mall Japan. Having gone through the rather time-consuming path, I would like to ease that burden by sharing with a list of all the 1st generation pokemon names in their Japanese characters here. This I hope will help those residing outside of Japan a chance to source out their grails/wants. Names of Pokemon [1st Generation in Japanese] *Note: For some searches, you may want to include

eBay
While you may be pleased with the amount of figures available for sale on this global auction / shop, be mindful that there are lots of bootlegs (fake) peddlers. The golden rule applies here - if the deal sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. To get around these items and hopefully get better and authentic search results, here are some recommended steps by blueringumbreon (Livejournal). Click on the image below or visit the page here |
Other Areas to Hunt
Apart from popular auction sites as discussed on the left, as these figures are easily a decade old (or more since the first batch was out for sale in 1998), you may try your luck at old independent toy shops, fleas or junkyard sales. You may be in for a surprise. There are a couple of websites that sells authentic Pokemon merchandises and that includes figures. A quick search on the internet will yield you those results. Just remember the golden rule and you will be save. Whenever in doubt, check with the seller, ask for more pictures to be uploaded / sent. If the seller refuses, high chance that the sale is doubtful. You may also want to refer to the image gallery (photo shoot in progress) for better reference. Above all, join the pkmncollectors community on livejournal. Sales of all pokemon merchandises happens frequently and as it is a closely-monitored community, you can be more assured for the item's authenticity. This is the place for you to learn more about the monster collection and also share your collection among collectors spanning from America to Asia. |
